Hey Folks!  Get chatting!  Post your General Discussions here!

How is one supposed pronounce the acronym “MAGIP” for our association???

MAGIP with the short ‘a’ and soft ‘g’ -  ma-jip
MAGIP with the short ‘a’ and hard ‘g’ -  ma-gip
MAGIP with the long ‘a’ and soft ‘g’ - mā-jip
MAGIP with the long ‘a’ and hard ‘g’ - mā-gip

    What is your opinion?

as in : Do you believe in Magip...

you know you love that jingle (or at least can't get it out of your head)

you could even have it playing in the background on the website and at conferences

or maybe just be a little more direct and call it MT GIS

I recall reading through the meeting minutes from the first-ever MAGIP meeting and the board at that time adopted the pronounciation with a long 'a' and hard 'g.'

I was a board member at that meeting. That is what we decided, so all you new people should stop trying to change it!!!  :0)

We tried and tried to come up with a name whose acronym would be MAGPIE, but we couldn't.

Opps --I guess I've been way off - I 've been saying mag-I,P -- too many years in IT apparently.

For years, hanging out in the Bozeman GIS scene, I was enculturated to pronounce it with a long a and soft g ("geography" has a soft g). Then Gerry set me straight. It seems there is a spatial component to this issue. How appropriate!
