Request for Assistance #12 - Gallatin Gateway Youth Group (GYG) 3-day Camp

Board Members - There will be a 5-day discussion period for this request.  On Monday, a link to a survey to vote on this request will be sent.

The Gallatin Gateway Youth Group (GYG) is hosting a 3-day camp for 6th-8th graders in late July. A 3-hr morning workshop will be given on GPS/GIS and geocaching. We are renting the GPS trunk from the MT Natural History center and will use them to locate a few geocaches in Gallatin Gateway and then conduct our own "treasure hunt" using the GPS units to navigate from point to point. We are expecting 10-15 kids to participate in the camp.

We would like to ask MAGIP for $100 for the rental of the trunk ($45) and for a treasure (popsicle, water bottles, or something along those lines) that the kids will find on their last stop.

Please be aware that the MT Natural History Center has already indicated that MAGIP will be paying for the shipping of the trunk ($54-66).

    Project Dates - Wednesday, July 23, 2014 - Friday, July 25, 2014

Carrie Shockley, MAGIP member, will be conducting the training, geocaching and treasure hunt.

Funds requested from MAGIP for this Gallatin Gateway Youth Group camp total $100, for the purpose of renting the GPS Trunk from MT Natural History Center and for geocache treasures.

    Contact: Carrie Shockley

Comment period will close Monday, June30, on which date I will send a survey link out to the Board.  Thanks!

I am a bit confused. Does the $100 that is being asked for include the $54-66 for shipping?  Why is there a rental of trunk fee $45?

Meghan and I just meet yesterday about doing something just like this event for a group of homeschoolers in Helena.  Just wondering if it will cost MAGIP over $100 just to get and rent the trunks for each event.

I believe that Carrie is asking for $100. That does not include the $54-66 to ship them back. The Montana Natural History Center will send us an invoice separately.

All of the trunks have a rental fee. See info from their website below (http://www.montananaturalist.org/teacher-resources/traveling-trunks/):

    Renting a Trunk

Trunks can be rented for 2 weeks for $35 or 3 weeks for $45. Contact us to discuss longer rentals. Payment must be made in full to confirm reservation. Users are responsible for contents of the trunk and shipping charges. Trunks cannot be shipped out of state. For in-state shipping, a $150 damage deposit is required to confirm your reservation. After the trunk is returned, we will refund the balance minus rental & shipping costs. One way shipping in state may cost up to $100 depending on size of trunk. Trunks are subject to a $35 late fee if not returned on time.
