Board Members - There will be a 5-day discussion period for this request. Next Wednesday, a link to a survey to vote on this request will be sent.
The Flathead Valley Geospatial subgroup of the Montana GIS and Geospatial group (http://www.meetup.com/montanaGeo/) is requesting assistance from MAGIP to make the next user group meeting successful. It is a Flathead Valley Geospatial Tech Talk (http://www.meetup.com/montanaGeo/events/177145882/) on May 29, 2014 in Whitefish, MT, with one hour reserved for technical presentations, followed by a social hour to discuss anything GIS related with members.
A couple GIS professionals in the Flathead Valley started this group in January 2014, and have been enjoying increased membership since then. We hold monthly meetings, and alternate between technical sessions and social events. We draw GIS users to our events from around the valley as it is the only group of its kind around here. It is a great venue to share ideas, projects, problems, and anything Geospatial- and GIS-related with peers. It also serves as a venue to advance the field of GIS, as programmers, software developers, and others not directly working with GIS have come to the events and gained knowledge of GIS and how it can work for them.
We have found a venue for the event, Old Town Creative in Whitefish. Currently the group does not have any of its own financial resources and we volunteer our time, and we have been relying on individual members to provide services and resources.
Funds requested from MAGIP for this Flathead Valley Geospatial Tech Talk is $50, for the purpose of providing pizza after the technical talk session.
