GIS TECHNICIAN
Closing Date: April 30, 2012. Position open until filled.
Hours: 20 hours/week
Compensation: $14/hour
Duties:
Responsible for GIS and database development for projects related to management and planning in both natural and urban environments. Assist with development of data sets at multiple geographic scales. Additional duties will include geospatial analysis and problem solving, applying database and scripting tools, and applying GIS to decision support and collaborative processes.
Education/Experience:
The required knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a resource management or natural science field or a minimum of three to five years experience. Applicant must be proficient with ESRI GIS software, and familiar with SQL and the ability to build and work with databases. Experience with ESRI Grid or Spatial Analyst is desirable. Experience and background in urban, rural planning or resource management, and ability to communicate effectively with professionals in multiple disciplines is desirable.
Must have strong skills in written communication and accessing/manipulating computer programs used in geospatial analysis and database development and maintenance. Must be able to effectively communicate complex technical information; work independently to accomplish objectives within established schedules & deadlines; work well with others, maintain positive working environment; work on multiple projects simultaneously; effectively prioritize a workload with multiple deadlines & demands; and follow standard office practices and procedures.
