Last Wednesday was Earth Observation Day sponsored by AmericaView and MontanaView. www.americaview.org

The purposes of Earth Observation Day, which was held on April 11, 2012, was: 1) to recognize the importance of using remotely sensed data to monitor the Earth and its environments; and 2) to promote the use of remotely sensed data by K-16 teachers and students.

A number of activities are conducted across the United States, including here in the Bozeman area by members of MontanaView.org. I created a lesson on Land Cover Exploration after Forest Fires to be used around Earth Observation Day and for Earth Week. The activity is built around the Purdy and Fridley Forest Fires of 2011. The maps and and instructional material can obtained at http://www.arcgis.com/home/ and search for "Land Cover Exploration after Forest Fire". The activity should be opened in ArcGIS On Line.
